Coltsfoot Country Retreat Wedding with Owl

Alison and Aaron tied the knot at the breathtaking Coltsfoot Country Retreat in the heart of Hertfordshire. The ceremony occurred in a beautifully rustic barn, offering a picturesque view of the rolling countryside beyond. The weather was a delightful surprise for an August day in the UK—sunny skies and a gentle breeze made for perfect wedding conditions!

Alison had her stunning bridal squad by her side, featuring four lovely bridesmaids, two adorable flower girls, and her sister, who proudly took on the role of maid of honour. The colour palette they chose—rich navy and shimmering gold—brought an air of elegance and sophistication to the entire celebration.

In our pre-wedding meet-ups, Aaron had mentioned that he wasn’t too keen on being in front of the camera, preferring to stick to candid, documentary-style shots throughout the day. But, of course, Alison had her heart set on some beautiful couple portraits. With a bit of gentle persuasion (and maybe a dash of charm!), I managed to coax Aaron out of his shell. And wouldn’t you know it? Once we got going, he ended up getting into it! The nerves faded, and soon enough, Aaron was enjoying the moment, soaking up the day's magic with his beautiful bride.

Now, one of the most fun and unique elements of Alison and Aaron’s day had to be their owl ring bearers. Yes, you read that right—owls! The plan was for these majestic creatures to swoop down and deliver the rings during the ceremony. However, as weddings often go, not everything went according to plan. Instead of performing their grand ring-bearing duties, both owls seemed to take a liking to the rafters of the barn. They perched themselves high up, watching the proceedings from above, and refused to come down!

But hey, no one panicked. In a pinch, the ever-reliable best man swooped in—pun intended—holding one of the owls as the rings were exchanged. There were no mishaps, just a bit of lighthearted laughter as everyone embraced the quirky moment. After all, who needs perfectly trained owls when you’ve got a best man who can step in like that?

Speaking of the ceremony, Alison was an absolute vision in her ruffled white dress. She radiated happiness and looked like a true bride of dreams! The whole day was a joyful celebration, filled with laughter, love, and the warm company of their closest family and friends. It was truly a wedding to remember—owls, laughs, and all!
