Relaxed Letchworth Hall Woodland Wedding

When couples tell me their main goal for their wedding day is simply to have fun, my photography instincts immediately kick in. Because Naomi and Nigel envisioned an immersive, relaxed celebration, they decided on splitting their time between a stately Hertfordshire manor and a hidden outdoor canopy. Ultimately, my job was simply to capture the photos of everyone having the time of their lives. Therefore, I used a documentary approach that lets the genuine energy and vibrant colours of the day speak for themselves.

Morning Preparations at a 17th-Century Estate

The wedding morning kicked off at Letchworth Hall Hotel. Undoubtedly, the natural window light in this breathtaking historic estate is an absolute dream for candid photography. Meanwhile, Naomi and her party got ready in a suite roomy enough for hair, makeup, and plenty of unscripted photos. She was incredibly chilled out. As a result, this set a carefree tone for the rest of the wedding.

After spotting the beautiful starry-night sequin details on her dress, I relocated the gown to one of the building’s carved wooden mantlepieces. Consequently, the contrast of the crisp, sparkling fabric against the warm, rich tones of the manor’s original woodwork made for some of my favorite detail photos of the morning. Once she was dressed, we orchestrated a touching first look with her dad. In doing so, we preserved his proud tears in a beautifully lit, completely unposed moment.

A Magical Woodland Wedding Ceremony

Soon after, a pristine 1966 retro VW campervan waited outside to transport the bridal party to their secluded woodland wedding venue. Tucked away between Hitchin and Letchworth, this outdoor space was transformed by striking blue and crisp white florals. Indeed, these colours popped beautifully against the deep, earthy greens of the forest.

As Naomi walked down the tree-lined aisle, the dappled sunlight filtering through the branches created a stunning, natural spotlight. Capturing Nigel’s mesmerized reaction in the wedding photos under that lighting is exactly why I shoot candid photography. Following a beautiful, dual-led ceremony, they were pelted with an absolute wall of color. Consequently, this made for incredibly vibrant, joyful confetti photos amongst the trees.

Capturing True-to-Life Tones and Festival Vibes

Whenever you plan such an incredibly colorful, festival-style wedding, your photography should reflect exactly how vibrant it felt in person. Therefore, I purposefully avoid heavy, moody filters that wash out the scenery. Instead, my editing style focuses on natural, true-to-life tones. Ultimately, this ensures the bright blue skies, the vivid florals, and the warm, golden-hour light of the forest look as authentic in your wedding photos as they did to the naked eye.

Later on, we fully utilized the rustic charm of the surroundings for the couple’s portrait photography. In fact, the photos of them simply walking, laughing, and messing around on the garden swing are some of my absolute favorites. Spontaneous giggles and gentle shoves are undeniably what bring wedding albums to life. Furthermore, my Sigma 24-70 2.8 lens stayed on my camera for most of this, giving me the flexibility to capture the fast-paced wedding energy as it happened.

Nostalgic Details & Dance Floor Photography

The afternoon was packed with brilliant color and nostalgic touches. For instance, a gorgeous pastel retro ice cream van pulled up to the wedding reception. Naturally, grabbing photos of the guests lining up for a 99 flake added such a great dynamic to the photography gallery. Then, Naomi opted for a tense, dramatic ribbon-cutting reveal instead of a traditional bouquet toss. The crowd loved it, and thus, the resulting photos perfectly capture the electric atmosphere of an outdoor woodland wedding.

After cutting their elegant pressed-flower wedding cake, the evening rolled straight into the first dance. Moreover, the transition from daylight to dusk was beautiful, with the venue’s string lights adding a warm, cinematic glow to the evening photography. Ultimately, capturing the fabulous, questionable, and completely iconic moves on the dance floor late into the night was the perfect way to close out this wedding photography collection.

Thank you, Naomi and Nigel, for trusting me with the photography for your incredible Letchworth Hall Hotel and woodland wedding.
